Tidewater Academy 57 North Cross 55

After top seed Tidewater Academy jumped to an early lead in the first quarter they fell behind number 4 seed North Cross.  North Cross led by 8 at the half and stretched their lead to as much as 11 in the third quarter.  Tidewater outscored Northcross 19-9 in the fourth quarter.  Tommie Starkes, Tidewater’s leading scorer with 22 points tied the game with a free throw with 3.7 seconds left on the clock.  Mike Greene rebounded the second missed free throw and scored the winning basket.  Other notable players for Tidewater were Casey Rickmond with 15 points, and North Cross’s A. D. Banks with 16 points. 

Tidewater will face the winner of the Isle of Wight Academy, Williamsburg Christian semifinal game played at 1:45.


Isle of Wight 53 Williamsburg Christian 52
Number two seed Isle of Wight fell behind early in the first quarter before outscoring Williamsburg Christian by five in the second.  Isle of Wight trailed by one at the half and the game continued to be close during the third and fourth quarters.  At the end of regulation the game was tied at 45.  With 14 seconds to go in overtime, Isle of Wight's leading scorer, Daniel Brown got the ball with 14 seconds to go and put Isle of Wight up by 2.  Brown sealed the game with 3 seconds to go when he blocked Williamsburg Christian's attempt to tie the game.  Other notable scorers were Brandon Black from Isle of Wight with 18 and Williamsburg Christian's Deron Powers, 15, William Mausteller, 12 and Dominique Brown with 11.  Isle of Wight will face Tidewater Academy for the Division III finals on Saturday at 1:30.

Norfolk Christian 68  Atlantic Shores 53
Number one seed Norfolk Christian took the lead early in the first quarter and never looked back.  Led by #14 James McAdoo, Norfolk led Atlantic Shores by 10 points at the half.  McAdoo led the Norfolk with a total of 34 points seconded by Mike Murray with 11.  Atlantic Shores' leading scorer was Justin Watson with 17 and Brandon Britt with 9.
Norfolk will face the winner of the Roanoke Catholic, Cape Henry game on Saturday at 3:30.


Roanoke Catholic 54  Cape Henry Collegiate 55
Number 2 seed Cape Henry held off Roanoke Catholic by one at the end of a closely contested game.  With only one point separating the two teams at half-time, Cape Henry continued to put pressure on Roanoke to shoot outside the lane.  Roanoke had a chance to win the game with 2 seconds left on the clock but #1 Demetrius Pollard blocked Clarence Turpin's final shot to run the clock out.  Leading scorers for Cape Henry were Demetrius Pollard and George Radford with 17 points each followed by Terrell Allen with 15 points.  Roanoke's leading scorers were Clarence Turpin with 14 points and Archie Hicklin with 12.   Cape Henry will face Norfolk Christian in the State Finals on Saturday at 3:30.

Benedictine 44 Bishop O'Connell 56
The number one seed Benedictine was upset in the first semi-finals of Division I play.  Bishop O'Connel never gave up their lead extending it to16 points after the third quarter.  Bishop O'Connel was led by Kendall Marshall with 23 points, follwed by James Bourne with 11 and Jordan Burgess with 10.  Benedictine's leading scorer was Mike Gbinije with 18.  Bisop O'Connell will face Blue Ridge in the state finals on Saturday at 5:30.

Blue Ridge 69 Miller School 51
Blue Ridge jumped to an early lead in the first quarter and held a twelve point lead until half-time.  Miller made a run for the lead in the third quarter and ended the quarter with a half court shot by D'Andre Corbin to pull within 2.  Miller's Michal Parker got into foul trouble early in the game and sat on the bench for most of the third and fourth quarters.  His entry late in the ballgame did little to stop Blue Ridge from outscoring his team by 16 points in the fourth quarter.  Blue Ridge was led by Malick Kone with 27 points followed by Darnell Turner with 10.  Miller's top scorers were Preston Terrell with 15 and Hippolyte Tsafack with 14.  Blue Ridge will face Bishop O'Connell on Saturday in the state final game at 5:30.

Tidewater Academy 57 Isle of Wight Academy 48
Isle of Wight led a successful first half by slowing down the play and went to the locker room with a 9 point lead at half time.  Brandon Privette and Brandon Black led the first half with a combined 25 of the 32 points.  After the half, however, the Tidewater Warriors changed both their offensive and defensive strategies and ended the third quarter tied at 38.  The fourth quarter continued to go Tidewater's way and they were in the lead 49-48 with one minute 39 seconds to go.  With both teams in the bonus, Tidewater converted 6 of 6 of their free throws and ended the game with a 9 point lead.  Leading scorer's for Tidewater were Casey Rickmond with 16, Tommie Starkes with 13, William Doyle with 12 and Mike Greene with 10.  Leading scorer's for Isle of Wight were Brandon Black with 15, Brandon Privette with 14, and Daniel Brown with 11.  This win marks Tidewater's first state boys basketball championship.

Divison II
Norfolk Christian  47 Cape Henry 44
The Division II state finals was a closely contested match from beginning to end.  Only three points separated the two teams after the first quarter and they were tied at 19 at half-time.  The teams traded basket for basket through the third quarter ending with Cape Henry in the lead 33-31.  At the beginning of the fourth quarter Norfolk Christian came out with a full court press.  The game remained close until the very end.  With 37 seconds left in the game, Norfolk Christian's Jonathan Dawkins made a layup to go up by one.  Norfolk regained possession with less than 10 seconds to go. Dontrell Silver converted both free throws to put Norfolk up by three with one second on the clock.  Leading scorer's for Norfolk were James McAdoo with 17, Dontrell Silver and Mike Murray with 8 each.  Leading scorer's for Cape Henry were Terrell Allen with 14 and Demetrius Pollard with 12.

Division I
Bishop O'Connell 80 Blue Ridge  72
The Division I state finals proved to be a tough match-up for Blue Ridge School.  The Barons led 20-17 after the first half and 36-35 at the half.  Bishop O'Connel returned from the locker room determined to even the score.  By the end of the third quarter, Bishop O'Connel had outscored the Barons by four and never looked back, outscoring them again by four in the fourth.  Blue Ridge scorer's were led by Malik Kone with 21 and Chad Holley with 17.  Bishop O'Connel's charge was led by Kendall Marshall with 24 points and James Bourne with 15.
