Ways You Can Support Tidewater Academy
Gifts of Cash
Traditionally, the majority of gifts to Tidewater Academy
have been in the form of cash. Some people find it more convenient to
make an annual pledge and make multiple, regular payments during the
year.
If you'd like to donate money, you can download and print a donor form to accompany your donation:

Donate Online
You can use your credit card to donate online. Donations to honor or remember someone, donations to our Annual Fund and to the Capital Campaign can be done online.
Donations with a Message
Often families of people with a celebration have asked for donations
to Tidewater Academy in honor of their loved one - sometimes for
a birthday, for a special event
such as a graduation or an anniversary, or at the end of a life in
celebration for that life. A card is mailed to the person for whom the
donation is made informing them of a special gift in their name.
Gifts of Real Estate
Gifts of real estate can consist of almost any type of property - a
personal or "recreational" residence, a commercial building, a farm, a
subdivision lot, or an undeveloped parcel of land. Individual financial
needs and goals determine which method of giving is most appropriate
for you.
Gifts of Tangible Personal Property
This type of gift includes collections, library works, jewelry, and
works of art, which may be subject to estate taxes. By contributing
such items during your lifetime rather than at death, you not only
reduce your taxable estate, but also reduce you taxable income in the
year of the gift.
Gifts of Life InsuranceLife Insurance offers
an attractive method for making a substantial gift to Tidewater Academy. There are several ways to use life insurance for charitable
purposes, the most frequent being the liquidation of a policy no longer
needed for family protection and donating the proceeds to Tidewater Academy.
Gifts of Appreciated SecuritiesContributions of
appreciated securities eliminate paying a capital gains tax on
securities and entitle you to an income tax charitable deduction equal
to the fair market value of the securities at the time of the gift.
Bequests
Tidewater Academy has been fortunate throughout the years to
receive bequests from members and friends. These donors felt they
needed their capital during their lifetime, but found it possible to
associate them with Tidewater Academy by making us the
beneficiary of a portion of their estate.
If any of these ways of giving appeal to you we suggest you
contact your broker or lawyer while you are living and complete an
agreement (trust contract) outlining exactly what you desire. Once this
is done, all you have to do is designate an amount from your estate to
be put in the already established fund. It saves time, legal work and
assures you that your intentions are carried out. Some charitable gifts
require the assistance of your tax advisor or attorney. If you want to
qualify for a deduction in the coming tax year, these gifts may require
advance planning.
Tidewater Academy respectfully reserves the right to
reject non-cash gifts, which in its sole judgment would not be in the
best interest of the School to accept. Absent specifications, gifts
will be placed in the School's Endowment Fund or used in such other
manner as the Board of Trustees deems appropriate.
All donations are final.
