ADMISSIONS In the admissions process, one of our greatest concerns is to determine whether or not Tidewater Academy is the appropriate school for your child. In order for us to make this decision, it is necessary to have the following information:
An Application for Admission must be filed with the school. To receive an application call or e-mail Robyn Croft, at r_croft@tidewateracademy-pvt-va.us.
Previous school records to include a signed Records Request Form (will be sent with application), a copy of the applicant's birth certificate, a current Virginia immunization record;an acceptable Virginia school physical record and any applicable school academic records. In addition, any results from testing which has been done in the past (neurological, psychological; or speech evaluations) should be forwarded to Tidewater.
Interview process - All parents and students will initially meet with Robyn Croft to review all records and forms. At that time, a tour of the school will be conducted. After the initial meeting, students and parents may meet with either the Director of Preschool, Director of the Lower School or the Director of the Upper School, depending on the age of the child or children.
Testing - placement tests will be administered to all students applying for admission.
Classroom visitation - for applicants who apply during the school year, a classroom visitation will be required. The student will spend an entire day in the grade or classes to which he/she would normally be assigned. This step will be waived for students applying for admission during the summer. Review of all information by the Admissions Committee - an Admissions Committee will meet within 5 days of receiving all pertinent information and records. At that time, one of the following three decisions will be made:
Student is Admitted Unconditionally - After reviewing all pertinent information, the Admissions Committee decides that both the School and the student will benefit from enrollment at Tidewater Academy.
Student is Admitted Conditionally - After reviewing all information, the Committee may decide to admit the student under certain conditions as outlined in the Conditional Acceptance Agreement.
Admission is Denied - If the Admissions Committee feels that the student and/or the school would not benefit from the student attending Tidewater Academy, admission will be denied.
